Heading into the final day here in Hamilton, New Zealand, we’re set to crown five new WPA World Champions.
In the men’s World 8-Ball semifinals, Joshua Filler dominated Kun-Lin Wu with a decisive 10-2 victory, while Jui-An Hsu edged out local hero Marco Teutscher 10-8.
In the women’s World 9-Ball semifinals, Siming Chen delivered one of the tournament’s most impressive performances by defeating Chihiro Kawahara in three sets. Despite trailing 2-1 in sets, Rubilen Amit staged a dramatic comeback against Kristina Tkach to secure her place in the final.
In the junior competition, Revo Maimre claimed the World Champion title in the Boys Under-17 division, overcoming Walter Laikre in a thrilling hill-hill final, 7-6. Laikre missed a crucial 4-ball in the deciding rack, allowing Maimre to clear the table and seize the title.
The final matches in the junior divisions will be played today. In the Girls division, an all-American final features Savannah Easton and Sofia Mast, who defeated Wang Wan-Ling and Shirin Volery in the semifinals, respectively.
In the Boys Under-19 division, Adrian Prasad, who competed in the Under-17 final last year, faces Mika van Berkel, who was a finalist in the Under-19 division last year. Both are looking to secure their first world junior title after narrowly missing out in Austria last year.
