Carlo Biado, unaccustomed to early struggles, found himself in the loser’s bracket on day one of the Yalin WPA Men’s World 8-Ball Championship after a tough 6-8 loss to Jui-An Hsu.
His second match against Japan’s Kenko Suzuki was also challenging, especially with the score tied at 5-5. Unexpected errors from Suzuki allowed Biado to capitalize and advance, 8-5.
Another top favorite to clinch the world 8 ball title, Joshua Filler, also didn’t show his peak performance on the first day but managed two victories—8-3 against fellow German Thorsten Hohmann and 8-4 against Roman Hybler.
One of the day’s most thrilling finishes was the match between Mario He and Phuong Nam. With the score tied at 7-7, He had the opportunity to close out the match but scratched on the second-to-last shot. Phuong failed to run out the table, missing the 11-ball, leaving an easy black ball for He to win.
